UK Board Class 12 English Syllabus for 2025-26: A Comprehensive Overview
The National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT), New Delhi, has announced the prescribed English Reader for the UK Board Class 12 Syllabus 2025-26. Titled "Flamingo," this comprehensive textbook will guide students through their final year of English studies.
The syllabus is divided into three main sections: Reading Skills, Creative Writing Skills, and Literature Text Book and Supplementary Reading Text. Each section carries a specific weightage towards the overall marks. The Reading Skills section is worth 22 marks, Creative Writing Skills is worth 18 marks, and the combined Literature Text Book and Supplementary Reading Text section is worth 40 marks. The grand total for the syllabus is 100 marks.
The Reading Skills section includes a variety of assessment items for comprehension, interpretation, analysis, evaluation, and extrapolation beyond the text. One unseen passage is provided for comprehension, interpretation, analysis, inference, and vocabulary assessment. Additionally, an unseen case-based factual passage with verbal/visual inputs like statistical data, charts, etc., is also included.
The prose texts included in Flamingo are "The Last Lesson Lost," "Spring Deep Water," "The Rattrap," "Indigo," "Poets and Pancakes," "The Interview," and "Going Places." The poetry texts included are "My Mother at Sixty-Six," "Keeping Quiet," "A Thing of Beauty," "A Roadside Stand," and "Aunt Jennifer's Tigers."
For the Creative Writing Skills section, students will be tasked with activities such as notices, formal/informal invitations and replies, letters based on verbal/visual input, and article/report writing. The combined word limit for both passages is 700-750 words.
The Internal Assessment section of the syllabus includes the assessment of Listening and Speaking Skills, Project Work, Viva On Project, and Continuous Assessment/Unit Test. The total marks for this section are 8.
In addition to Flamingo, the syllabus provides prescribed books for students to refer to. Another supplementary reader for the UK Board Class 12 Syllabus 2025-26 is Vistas, also published by NCERT, New Delhi. The texts included in Vistas are "The Third Level," "The Tiger King," "Journey to the End of the Earth," "The Enemy," "On the Face of It," "Memories of Childhood," "The Cutting of My Long Hair," and "We Too are Human Beings."
