"A fatal stabbing incident happened in France, involving multiple police officers, with casualties attributed to a suspected Islamist attacker."

In a shocking incident, a knife attack occurred in the city of Mulhouse, located in eastern France, on Saturday. The busy city of around 110,000 inhabitants witnessed a tragic event that has left the nation in mourning.

Forensic scientists were working hurriedly to examine blood stains before rain could wash them away, as they searched for evidence. The attack claimed one life, and three more police officers were lightly wounded. Two of the officers sustained more serious injuries, with one suffering an injury to the carotid artery and the other to the thorax.

Prime Minister Francois Bayrou expressed his condolences, stating that "fanaticism has struck again." French President Emmanuel Macron also confirmed the incident as an "Islamist terror act." Macron made this statement during a visit to France's agriculture fair.

The suspect in the attack is a 37-year-old individual who is on a terror prevention watchlist called FSPRT. The person, born in Algeria, had been under judicial supervision and house arrest, with an expulsion order from France. The suspect is currently in custody.

The PNAT (Paris Prosecutor's Office Anti-Terrorism Section) is investigating the attack for murder and attempted murder "in connection with a terrorist enterprise." The attack happened during a demonstration in support of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

In response to the attack, police established a security parameter, and military units were sent to the scene as backup. Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau was expected to travel to the scene of the attack later Saturday. The suspect is reported to have shouted "Allahu Akbar" during the attack.

The incident is being investigated as a terror attack, but the judiciary needs to confirm this. The attack is a grim reminder of the ongoing threat of terrorism in France. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families during this difficult time.
