In a dramatic turn of events, John Palombi, a 38-year-old resident of Glendale, was apprehended outside a 7-Eleven store in Alhambra, approximately 9 miles northeast of Los Angeles. The arrest was made due to domestic violence charges, according to reports by NBC Los Angeles.
The incident unfolded when authorities responded to a call at the store regarding a suspected domestic violence incident. The identity of the victim, however, was not disclosed in the report.
Upon arrival, officers asked John Palombi to submit to a pat-down, but he attempted to flee the parking lot. During the ensuing pursuit, authorities found a stun gun on Palombi, who was the subject of an active warrant.
The call for help was recognised by an unspecified individual who then contacted the police. In a commendable act, a 7-Eleven employee, Shamsher Singh, praised his colleague for their quick thinking and decision to call the authorities.
In a statement, Singh expressed his appreciation, saying, "My colleague made a good decision by calling the police. It was the right thing to do."
The Alhambra police shared body-camera video from the incident on their Facebook page, providing a first-hand account of the events that transpired.
Interestingly, the victim used a discreet hand signal to seek help. This signal, created by the Canadian Women's Foundation, involves tucking the thumb under the four fingers. This non-verbal cue is designed to help victims of domestic violence discreetly communicate their distress.
