A Journey Beyond the Continent's Borders

Tom Brown: A Scholar with a Passion for Science and the Arts

Tom Brown, a South African native, has had an intriguing academic journey that spans various disciplines. Born and raised in South Africa, Tom's love for learning was evident from an early age, as he excelled in science and mathematics competitions during his high school years.

Tom pursued his higher education, earning an MSc from Unisa in 1997 and a PhD from Pretoria in 2006. His academic interests lie in abstract analysis, specifically Markov operators and stochastic processes, and vector valued Laplace transforms applied to semigroups and families of evolution equations.

Despite his success in the field of mechanical engineering, Tom was forced to halt his academic career due to ill health. However, he has recently resumed his studies, focusing on mathematics and its applications.

Tom's intellectual pursuits are not limited to the realm of science. He has a keen interest in languages, literature, and religion, which he often reflects in his writing. Tom writes and publishes on Abctales, and his favorite authors include Jules Verne, HG Wells, Jack London, Shakespeare, William Blake, and Dylan Thomas. His love for adventure, science fiction, and fantasy is evident in his all-time favorite movies, the Narnia stories and the Lord of the Rings.

When he's not engrossed in academic work or literature, Tom enjoys a variety of hobbies. He is an avid nature enthusiast, enjoying nature hikes, camping, fishing, and appreciating the beauty of rain, lightning thunderstorms, and rainbows. Tom also finds dining out to be a romantic experience, and he enjoys a hearty breakfast of bacon, eggs on toast, fried chips, and fresh orange juice, and an ox-tail stew for supper.

Tom has held permanent teaching positions at Unisa and Wits, and he looks forward to being involved in formal research and teaching again. He is also active on social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter.

Regrettably, information about Tom's academic supervisor during his MSc and PhD studies is not readily available in the search results. Despite this gap, Tom's contributions to the academic community have not gone unnoticed. His work, though limited in published academic pieces, showcases his unique blend of scientific rigour and artistic flair.

Tom's favorite dog, a Maltese poodle named Freddy, was a cherished companion during his academic journey. Currently, Tom is away from academic activity for a significant period of time, but he continues to study and explore his passions, eager to contribute to the world of academia once more.
