A staff member of Les Amis is planning to run 50 miles in celebration of the charity's 50th anniversary.

In a remarkable show of support and determination, Alex Black, a facilities manager at Les Amis, a cherished Jersey charity, has announced his participation in this year's Jersey Marathon. The event takes place on Sunday 5 October, with Alex starting the race with bib number 50.

However, Alex isn't just running the standard 26.2 miles. He's aiming to complete an impressive 50 miles, almost double the distance of other participants. This extraordinary feat is in honour of Les Amis' 50th anniversary this year.

Les Amis, often described as a family rather than just a charity, provides essential support and services for those with learning disabilities and associated conditions. The past 50 years have seen a turbulent journey for the organisation, but its success is largely attributed to the community's investment in developing values of inclusion and empowerment.

Alex's 50-mile run is more than just a physical challenge. It's a small gesture aimed at inspiring others and helping raise funds for Les Amis' continued support. After completing the Standard Chartered Jersey Marathon, Alex will continue his run, passing all Les Amis' residential homes and ending with a lap at FB Fields.

Islanders can sponsor Alex on his JustGiving page. He's running not just for himself, but for the impact he sees the charity's work having every day. "I want to push my limits and make a difference," Alex said. "Les Amis provides people with the opportunity to live with independence, purpose, and joy, and I want to help ensure they can continue supporting individuals beyond another 50 years."

Alex won't be alone in his endeavour. Other Les Amis staff and service users will join him at various points during his 50-mile or 80km run. Together, they aim to inspire the community and raise funds for a worthy cause.

While the donor who will raise the total donation amount for Alex's run remains unknown, one thing is certain: Alex's 50-mile run for Les Amis is a testament to the power of community spirit and the difference that can be made when we come together for a cause.
