In the captivating world of cinema, a new film titled "Antebellum" has emerged, leaving audiences spellbound with its breathtaking five-minute "oner" shot that paints a chilling portrait of a Civil War-era plantation.
Behind the lens of this thought-provoking horror-thriller are filmmakers Gerard Bush and Christopher Renz, who have already made a name for themselves in the industry, creating commercials for prestigious brands such as Harry Winston, Vogue, and Porsche. The film centres around Veronica, a Ph.D. sociologist and bestselling author who delves into the disenfranchisement of black people in the U.S. In a unique twist, Janelle Monáe takes on the dual roles of Veronica and Eden, a Civil War-era enslaved woman.
The film's score, composed by Nate Wonder and Roman GianArthur, adds an extra layer of depth to the story. Bush and Renz were thrilled with the result, describing it as "hauntingly beautiful" and "leaning into the horror of the experience." This is the motion picture debut for the duo, who are best known for their collaborations with Janelle Monáe through her Wondaland Arts Society.
