A vibrant, carefree photography display provides a colorful perspective on global phenomena
In the heart of Rome, outside the city centre, lies Villa Medici, a historic arts complex that has recently become a hub for contemporary art. The exhibition 'Chromotherapia', currently on display, is a colourful and thought-provoking exploration of photography as a form of therapy.
The exhibition, which runs until 9th June 2025, is divided into seven chapters, each showcasing different genres. From the saturated world of pop art and surrealism, to the quirky imagery of animals and the opulence of the baroque, 'Chromotherapia' offers a diverse view of the photographic medium.
The exhibition is not just a display of colourful images, but an attempt to convey different perspectives on life and emotions. It features work from renowned artists such as Maurizio Cattelan & Pierpaolo Ferrari, Walter Chandoha, and Alex Prager, among others.
One of the chapters, 'Foodorama', focuses on food images, while 'Raining Cats and Dogs' showcases quirky animal imagery. The array of imagery in 'Chromotherapia' is accompanied by a photographic book titled 'Chromotherapia, Feel-Good Color Photography', edited by Damiani Books and Villa Medici.
The first industrial color photograph was created by the Lumière brothers in 1907, marking the beginning of a new era in photography. 'Chromotherapia' at Villa Medici is a continuation of this journey, offering a fun and free-spirited exploration of the photographic medium.
For those interested in experiencing this vibrant exhibition, tickets and further information can be found on the Villa Medici website (villamedici.it). The exhibition is a must-see for anyone seeking a fresh perspective on the world and the emotions it evokes.
