Absent Participation of Ned in Birmingham Tournament
In the world of greyhound racing, the upcoming 480m Arc Birmingham Cup and the 730m PGR St Leger are generating a lot of excitement. The entries for both competitions closed on Friday, with a total of 24 hopefuls for the Arc Birmingham Cup and 20 for the St Leger.
One greyhound that will be missing from these events is Wicky Ned, who was injured during a race. Droopys Plunge, another greyhound, was involved in an incident with Wicky Ned in a previous event, the Select Stakes. Unfortunately, Droopys Plunge injured Wicky Ned's left wrist during the race, causing him to miss the Arc Birmingham Cup and the PGR St Leger.
Trainer Jimmy Fenwick has laid Wicky Ned off with a view to getting him back for the Steel City Cup at Sheffield next month. Meanwhile, Droopys Aladdin, the current 480m track record holder on the new track, trained by Mike Burton, will be participating in the Arc Birmingham Cup. He finds himself in a challenging trap four slot in the final eliminator.
The PGR card on Monday night includes four heats each for the £20,000 St Leger and the £12,500 Birmingham Cup. Heat three of the St Leger is particularly competitive, with Mark Wallis's Mongys Wild and Sean Parker's Droopys Flare among the entrants.
Greyhound enthusiasts will be keen to see how these events unfold, especially with the absence of Wicky Ned and the potential impact of Droopys Plunge's incident. The greyhound racing community wishes Wicky Ned a speedy recovery and looks forward to his return at the Steel City Cup.
