Accident at Jajpur's waterfall claims lives of two individuals, while a tourist disappears during a swim in the sea of Puri.
In a tragic incident that occurred at the Puri sea beach on Saturday, two individuals lost their lives after drowning in a waterfall. The victims have been identified as Shambhu Pradhan (22) from Kanjiapal village and Manas Mahanta, an engineer from Bandhagaon-Koil village.
The incident took place at a seasonal waterfall located in the Mahagiri hill range, under the Sukinda forest division. Shambhu and Manas, along with their friend Buturu Mahanta, had gone to take a bath in the waterfall around 10 am. However, Shambhu and Manas never returned, prompting Buturu to alert family members and villagers.
The search for the missing individuals was initiated by local life guards and the fire service personnel. Unfortunately, despite their efforts, there was no trace of tourist Vikash Chande, who had also gone missing, or Manas. Tragically, the body of Shambhu was recovered by a team from the Sukinda Fire Service.
The waterfall where the tragedy occurred is known to be hazardous, with the water plunging nearly 300 feet into a deep and treacherous pit. The missing person in this case is Manas Mahanta, and the missing tourist who has been identified is Vikash Chande from Hyderabad.
A team from the Bhuban Fire brigade from the neighboring Dhenkanal district joined the rescue efforts for Manas. As of the report, Manas is still missing.
Our thoughts go out to the families and friends of the victims during this difficult time. We urge everyone to exercise caution when visiting unfamiliar bodies of water, especially those known to be hazardous.
