On Saturday, 5th July 2025, an unusual incident occurred in the picturesque town of Ernst, Cochem. A car rolled into the Mosel river, causing a stir among local residents and sparking a swift response from emergency services.

According to the Police Inspectorate Cochem, the incident took place at approximately 18:13. The 33-year-old driver of the vehicle had parked it around 17:30, and for reasons unknown, it ended up in the river.

The rescue and recovery operation was initiated via the ILS Koblenz, and approximately 30 firefighters and 3 officers from PI Cochem were involved. Fortunately, no one was in the car, and no hazardous materials had leaked from the vehicle. This meant that there was no risk of the car being swept away or posing a threat to the environment.

Upon reaching the scene, the rescuers found the car standing in the water with all four tires submerged. Despite the challenging conditions, the vehicle was successfully recovered from the Mosel. However, it sustained damage from the water.
