Accidental dunking of AirPods Pro 2 leads to potential cost savings of $100 due to taken actions

In an unexpected turn of events, a household in the UK found their Apple AirPods Pro 2 submerged in a water bowl, courtesy of a clumsy mishap while removing a running vest. The household, which includes a toddler and a dog, is no stranger to technology mishaps, as the owner has a history of breaking or losing multiple iPhones and has even resorted to labelling charging cables to prevent misuse.

The incident left the AirPods charging case glowing red, indicating it needed a charge. But to the owner's surprise, the light continued to shine even after the water incident, hinting at the resilience of the device. Apple, known for its premium products, does not recommend submerging any of its headphones in water, or using rice for that matter, to dry them.

In a bid to revive the AirPods, the owner turned to unconventional methods. They used a small brush designed to clean a toddler's sippy cup straw to dislodge rice grains from the AirPods charging case's lid's hinge. They also left the charging case in a bowl of rice for a couple of hours, a common practice believed to absorb moisture. However, they did not use silica gel packets, a more effective method for drying electronics.

Afterwards, the owner used a microfiber cloth to dry the charging case thoroughly. They also used a cotton bud to dry the part of the case where the AirPods sit and pushed it into the charging point. Fortunately, the AirPods are still charging and the individual is able to use them.

The cost of replacing an AirPods charging case and individual buds can set one back approximately $100. But if the individual has Apple Care, the cost is significantly less. In this case, the financial burden was avoided, thanks to the AirPods' resilience and the owner's innovative efforts.

In a twist of fate, the owner also found a use for a 12-pack of HOMEXCEL Microfiber Cloths they recently purchased from Amazon. The pack, originally priced at $8.99, is currently on sale for $6.99. The pack comes with four colours of cloth for different purposes, making it a versatile addition to any household.
