Yefim Bronfman Returns to Korea for 50th Anniversary Solo Recital

Yefim Bronfman, the renowned 67-year-old pianist and US citizen born in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, is set to return to Korea for a solo recital on Sept. 21, 2023, marking his 50th anniversary as a performer. The event will take place at the Lotte Concert Hall in Seoul.

Bronfman, known for his legendary resilience, has faced numerous challenges throughout his career, including injuries, challenging repertoire, and moments of self-doubt. Yet, the music itself always renews his strength.

The program for the evening includes a captivating mix of works by Brahms, Schumann, Debussy, and Prokofiev. Bronfman describes the connections between these composers as natural and not forced.

In an interview, Bronfman shared his thoughts on Debussy's "Images, Book II," stating that it is a world of delicate, shifting light. The contrast between Debussy and Prokofiev, according to him, becomes the unifying element of the program. Prokofiev's Seventh Sonata, as per Bronfman, carries the explosive intensity of wartime.

Both Debussy and Prokofiev, he explains, share a powerful sense of rhythm, structure, and color. This shared appreciation for the intricacies of music is a testament to Bronfman's deep understanding and respect for the composers' work.

Bronfman views solo recitals as more personal compared to orchestral performances, and he is looking forward to sharing a direct emotional connection with the Korean audience. Returning after 25 years, he compares the experience to reconnecting with an old friend.

In addition to his solo recital, Bronfman has a new collaboration planned this fall. He will be working on a piano trio project with Anne-Sophie Mutter, a renowned German violinist known for her distinguished career in classical music.

Bronfman's guiding principles in his 50th anniversary as a performer remain unwavering: honesty to the score, respect for the composer, and the pursuit of deeper meaning through music. He aims to keep learning, to keep deepening his understanding of the music, and to share that truth with the audience as honestly as he can.

This promises to be an unforgettable evening of music, showcasing the talent and passion of one of the world's greatest pianists. Don't miss out on the opportunity to witness Yefim Bronfman's performance at the Lotte Concert Hall in Seoul on Sept. 21, 2023.
