Channing Tatum, the renowned actor, has opened up about his weight loss journey for his upcoming film, Roofman. The movie, which focuses on themes of loneliness and emptiness, required Tatum to push his body in ways that affected his mental health.

Tatum underwent an intense weight loss process to prepare for the role of Jeffrey Manchester, a fugitive in the film. His initial goal was to reach 185 pounds, but the weight loss continued beyond this point, resulting in him reaching a weight of 172 pounds. This unplanned weight loss affected his mental health during the preparation for Roofman.

Assistant director Mariela Comitini raised concerns about Tatum's weight loss during the filming of Roofman. Tatum revealed that he experienced a sort of emptiness and sadness during the weight loss process.

Preparing for Roofman was not just a physical challenge for Tatum. He also felt overwhelmed by fame and noted that no one tells you how to handle it. He admitted to feeling intimidated and anxious because he greatly admired his co-star Kirsten Dunst and wanted to be liked by her.

Tatum's weight loss for Roofman was not the only challenge he faced. He questioned his suitability for acting and felt unsure about continuing in the industry. However, he believes his life experiences have given him something valuable to bring to his performances.

Despite these challenges, Tatum has returned to acting with a series of major projects including The Lost City (2022), Blink Twice (2024), and Deadpool & Wolverine (2024). His return to Hollywood comes after a nearly five-year hiatus due to burnout.

Tatum's role in Roofman is a far cry from his previous action-packed roles. The film promises to be a thought-provoking exploration of loneliness and emptiness, and Tatum's performance as Jeffrey Manchester is sure to be a highlight.
