Actor Charlie Hunnam portrays the bone-chilling persona of Ed Gein in the eerie preview for the movie 'Monster'
In the chilling third season of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan's Netflix anthology series "Monster", Charlie Hunnam takes on the role of Ed Gein, a man whose crimes birthed a new kind of horror in Hollywood.
The series, titled "Monster: The Ed Gein Story", follows the story of a friendly, mild-mannered recluse named Eddie Gein living in rural Wisconsin. However, beneath this facade, Gein committed horrific crimes driven by isolation, psychosis, and an obsession with his mother.
The cast includes Suzanna Son, Vicky Krieps, Olivia Williams, Lesley Manville, Joey Pollari, Charlie Hall, Tyler Jacob Moore, Mimi Kennedy, Will Brill, and Robin Weigert. Tom Hollander plays Alfred Hitchcock in the series.
Max Winkler and Brennan are directors on the series, with Brennan writing all episodes. Winkler, Eric Kovtun, Scott Robertson, Nissa Diederich, Louise Shore, Carl Franklin, and Hunnam are listed as executive producers for the series.
The key art for the series introduces Hunnam as Gein. The teaser trailer shows police investigating Gein's home and being disturbed by what they find. The streamer has described it as its most harrowing season yet.
The series delves into the macabre legacy of Gein, who influenced a genre of horror films, including Psycho, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and The Silence of the Lambs. The interview with Gein, made two days after his arrest, was used by Charlie Hunnam to portray Gein in the series.
The directors who directed parts of the episodes are Ian Brennan (episodes 4 and 5) and Max Winkler (the other six episodes). Brennan, Murphy, and Hunnam discussed how Gein, though lesser known than their prior subjects, had a significant influence on serial killers such as Ted Bundy.
The trailer ends with a conversation between Gein and his mother that is described as nightmarish. The season premieres on October 3 on Netflix. The official logline for the series describes Gein as "history's most singular ghoul". Laurie Metcalf plays Gein's mother in the series.
