The highly anticipated series "The Surgeon", produced by Ivi, has recently made its debut. Directed by the acclaimed Ilya Ermолоv, known for his work on "Golden Age", the series follows the life of a married surgeon, his wife, and their daughter.

The series' screenplay is the work of three authors: Timur Jaafarov, Darja Makarova, and Vasily Klepatsky. Jaafarov, a name synonymous with student thrillers such as "Chinese Lessons" and "My Big Secret", brings a unique blend of suspense and drama to "The Surgeon".

One of the standout features of the series is the transformation of the song "A Little Sad" by Kirkorov into a rock-action track in the style of Linkin Park. The genre of this transformed track is rock-action, adding an extra layer of intensity to the series.

However, the series has been met with criticism for its melodramatic plot and focus on women's femininity. Critics argue that this focus leads to a sad end for the characters, with the current reshuffling of film crews and genre mix contributing to this outcome.

Despite these criticisms, the series does not excessively feature pistols and is not primarily focused on action scenes. Instead, it delves deeper into the power struggle, shootouts, and the dismantling of a scheme for easy money that the married surgeon finds himself entangled in.

The series also explores the theme of "timely handling of women", adding a complex layer to the characters and their relationships.

In the series, Yevgeny Sannikov, a friend and colleague of Sergey Gilev, is accused of framing him for the drowning of his mistress, Anna Zavtur. Gilev, played by the lead actor praised for his portrayal of sacrificial love, escapes from prison and seeks to reclaim his home and wife.

Interestingly, the screenwriter Stas Ivanov, who is known for his work on a series about black market organ transplants, involved co-producers instead of his usual sole authorship. This move was aimed at bringing diverse perspectives and resources to the production, leading to the melodramatization of the plot involving black market organs to heighten emotional impact and audience engagement.

"The Surgeon" is rated 18+ and is a must-watch for those who enjoy suspenseful dramas with a touch of action. The series is currently streaming on Ivi.
