In a significant move to foster open dialogue and promote awareness, the Sexual Violence Forum was held last week at College of the Holy Cross. The event, which took place on the Hoval, a popular campus gathering spot, brought together representatives from the College Counseling Center, Chaplain's Office, and Relationship Peer Educators.

The forum aimed to initiate conversation on sexual violence within the College community and discuss ways to promote awareness for sexual violence within the student body. Lara Coby '26, a Staff Writer at College of the Holy Cross, was present to capture the event through her lens, as she did for her recent articles on the Express STI Clinic.

Health Services at College of the Holy Cross has announced an "Express STI Clinic" for confidential STI and pregnancy testing. Located in Loyola Hall, where Health Services is based, the clinic is open to anyone who wishes to get tested. This new initiative is a significant step towards addressing sexual health concerns and promoting open discussion about sexual violence.

While drinking and certain substances that compromise cognitive abilities can be risk factors for sexual violence, they are not the sole cause. Victim-blaming attitudes are harmful and discourage survivors from speaking out. It's crucial to remember that sexual violence is never the survivor's fault. Building a community and trust among friends can help prevent sexual violence and create a safe environment. Bystanders can also play a crucial role in intervening in potentially dangerous situations.

Misunderstandings and attitudes that contribute to rape culture still exist, but education can help enlighten others. Discussing sexual violence in trauma-sensitive ways is important, especially in higher education. The administration has sent an email to the campus community, providing ways to prevent future druggings.
