German Basketball Team Secures Convincing Victory Against Lithuania at EuroBasket 2025
The German basketball team has secured a convincing 107:88 win against co-favourite Lithuania at the EuroBasket 2025, putting them in a strong position to secure the top spot in their group.
Captained by Dennis Schröder, the German team played world-class basketball at times during the game, with Daniel Theis stepping up as the X-factor. The centre scored an impressive 23 points, making all nine of his shots, and played strong defense. Franz Wagner and Schröder himself also contributed significantly, scoring 24 and 26 points respectively.
The victory against Lithuania means the German team has advanced to the round of 16 of the EuroBasket earlier than expected. However, their work is far from done. The games against Great Britain on Monday and Finland on Wednesday will determine whether the German team secures the group victory.
If both teams win their groups, Germany and top favourite Serbia, led by NBA star Nikola Jokic, could potentially meet in the final on September 14 in Riga. Thunder forward Serge Ibaka emphasised the importance of staying focused for the remaining games. Ibaka stated that the job is not yet done, as the team's goal is to be the group winner.
The game between Germany and Lithuania was not particularly thrilling, with the German team facing genuine resistance from their opponents, unlike their previous games against Montenegro and Sweden. The team will need to maintain their form and focus if they are to secure the two wins they need to secure the top spot in their group and avoid facing Serbia for as long as possible.
As the EuroBasket 2025 progresses, the German team will look to build on their impressive victory against Lithuania and continue their pursuit of group victory in Finland.
