Adverse weather conditions lead to school delays, pushing start dates to Tuesday in Bouches-du-Rhône and Var regions.

The school and university restart in the departments of Bouches-du-Rhône and Var has been postponed to Tuesday, 2 September, due to the anticipated severe weather conditions.

According to meteorological forecasts, hourly accumulations of rain are expected to be between 40-60 mm, with locally more than 100 mm per hour. The authorities expect pluvio-orageous degradation to arrive from the west in the second part of the night, and the storm cells are expected to be little mobile, even stationary.

Christophe Merlino, president of the Federation of Parents' Councils (FCPE) of Bouches-du-Rhône, supports the decision to postpone the school restart. He, however, expresses concern about learning the decision through social networks and wonders about alternatives for parents.

School transportation in Bouches-du-Rhône has been suspended, and creches will be closed on Monday, 1 September. Colleges, high schools, and schools will reopen on Tuesday, 2 September.

Elisabeth Borne, Minister of National Education, assures the utmost caution is being taken due to the situation. She communicates through her Twitter account about the measures taken to ensure a return to normal and the school restart on Tuesday. The State and local authorities are fully mobilized to ensure a quick return to normal and the school restart on Tuesday.

Last year, during the school start in September 2020, the government implemented protective measures and extended support to reduce the burden on disabled students. These measures included tailored educational approaches and additional resources. However, no specific detailed measures from September 2020 were found in the search results.

Christophe Merlino demands clear communication and exceptional measures from the State due to potential difficulties for parents. FCPE (Fédération de l'Enseignement) is also demanding clear communication from the State. Merlino trusts the authorities regarding the postponement of the school restart, but he emphasizes the need for alternatives for parents and clear communication from the State.

Elisabeth Borne prioritizes the safety of students and educational staff. She assures that the priority is allowing the restart of school on Tuesday. Despite the postponement, Borne is confident that the measures taken will ensure a smooth and safe return to school for all students and staff.
