Green Party Advocates for Persistent Funding of Personal Solar Panels Installations - Advocacy: Greens push for ongoing backing of personal solar panel setups

In a recent development, the Alliance 90/The Greens have issued a report advocating for increased support for private solar installations as part of Germany's energy transition. This move has sparked debate, with Federal Minister of Economics, Katherina Reiche (CDU), expressing doubts about subsidizing new private solar installations.

The Greens' report suggests that increased digitalization is necessary for the energy transition, and it emphasizes the need for more solar cells, digitalization, and energy storage. The report refers to the increased solar panels as a "turbo" for the energy transition, aiming to accelerate the country's shift towards renewable energy sources.

The initiative to further invest in private solar components, such as on daycare centers, schools, and nursing homes, is driven by the German Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG), which came into effect on April 1, 2000. This act aims to promote energy transition and investments in photovoltaic systems. To finance these investments, a guaranteed purchase or minimum remuneration for electricity not self-used is provided over the system's economic life, including fixed feed-in tariffs and subsidies like premiums for full feed-in, tenant electricity, and elevated agro-PV installations.

The Greens' proposals also aim to promote the use of solar energy in public buildings. Funds for these investments will come from a special fund, and the proposed investments will be made on buildings such as kindergartens, schools, and nursing homes.

However, the Greens' energy policy is not without criticism. The newspaper SZ has stated that the policy is being criticized for harming the German economy and climate protection. The report's advocacy for more public funding to support private solar installations as part of the energy transition has added to the controversy.

Despite the controversy, the Greens' report also proposes investments in energy storage as part of the energy transition. The need for more efficient energy storage solutions is crucial for ensuring the stability of the grid as more renewable energy is integrated into the system.

This ongoing debate highlights the complexities and challenges of Germany's energy transition, as the country strives to meet its ambitious renewable energy targets while balancing economic and environmental considerations.
