Aerial attack on a Russian urban area
Drone Strike in Rostov-on-Don: Tensions Rise Between Ukraine and Russia
A drone strike incident in the southern Russian city of Rostov-on-Don on August 14, 2025, has heightened tensions between Ukraine and Russia. The attack, reportedly carried out by a Ukrainian drone, hit an apartment building, causing an explosion and injuring thirteen people.
The incident, which was captured in a photograph by VCG, occurred shortly before a planned meeting between President Putin and President Trump. The exact cause of the drone strike remains unknown, but the Russian government has called it an act of terrorism.
The apartment building damaged in the drone strike is reported to be undergoing repairs. Two individuals were wounded in the incident, and their condition is currently serious. They were taken to local medical institutions for treatment.
The Ukrainian government has not officially commented on the drone strike in Rostov-on-Don. However, they have denied any involvement in acts of terrorism in Russia. The Ukrainian drone responsible for the strike was not recovered.
Following the incident, the Russian military has increased its presence in the Rostov region. The Ukrainian border with Russia was also reinforced in response to the drone strike.
The news was announced by Yury Slyusar, the acting governor of the Rostov region, on his Telegram channel. The Russian authorities are currently investigating the incident.
The drone strike has added to the already strained relations between Ukraine and Russia. Both countries have been embroiled in a conflict in Eastern Ukraine since 2014, and the incident in Rostov-on-Don has raised concerns about the potential for further escalation.
As the investigation continues, both countries will need to work towards de-escalating the situation and finding a peaceful resolution to their ongoing conflict. The international community will be watching closely to see how the situation develops.
