In a nail-biting encounter at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Afghanistan emerged victorious against Pakistan in a crucial tri-series match. The hosts, UAE, were watching from the sidelines as the two Asian powerhouses fought it out.

After three matches, both Pakistan and Afghanistan find themselves at the top of the table, each with four points. However, it's Afghanistan that currently leads thanks to a better net run rate.

The match started with Pakistan's innings, which was far from smooth. They were reduced to 111 for nine in the 17th over, a situation that seemed to favour Afghanistan. But Pakistan's Haris Rauf came to their rescue, scoring 34 not out, hitting 4 sixes to lift their total to a defendable 151 for nine.

Rashid Khan, the star Afghan spinner, expressed confidence in defending this total on the Sharjah wicket. His faith was well-placed, as his bowling attack, including Noor Ahmad, Mohammad Nabi, and Khan himself, who took 2 wickets each, managed to restrict Pakistan to an 18-run defeat.

Afghanistan's batting line-up also shone brightly, with Ibrahim Zadran and Sediqullah Atal scoring 65 and 64 respectively to help Afghanistan reach 169 for five.

Rashid Khan was pleased with his team's performance, praising the depth of his bowling attack and the strength of his bench. He also mentioned that the team's playing eleven is decided based on the opposition and the wicket conditions.

This victory for Afghanistan is a significant boost as they prepare for the Asia Cup, where they could potentially face India up to three times. The hosts, UAE, will play their last league games against Pakistan on Thursday and Afghanistan on Friday, hoping to secure a spot in the final.

The final of the Sharjah tri-series will be played between Pakistan and the UAE on September 7, with the Asia Cup set to begin from September 9 in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
