AI Executive Stephen Ehikian Departs GSA for a Leadership Role in Enterprise Artificial Intelligence Corporation

Stephen Ehikian, who was referred to as a "serial entrepreneur" by the General Services Administration (GSA), has left the organisation to become the CEO of C3 AI.

Ehikian served as the acting head of the GSA for the first half of 2021, following which he was officially appointed as the head by President Donald Trump. However, he was replaced by Michael Rigas in July 2021.

During his tenure, Ehikian led several significant changes within the GSA. He was instrumental in the overhaul of the Federal Acquisition Regulation and was considered one of the key figures for carrying out the Department of Government Efficiency's cost-cutting efforts.

Under his leadership, the GSA rolled out a series of deals under the OneGov procurement strategy, involving major tech companies like Microsoft, OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google. These deals, according to Ehikian, are future-proofing the way government works and will deliver billions in savings to government and taxpayers.

Ehikian also initiated the FedRAMP 20x revamp program, aiming to reduce the FedRAMP approval timeline from months to weeks. This program is expected to streamline the process of adopting cloud services in the government sector.

In addition to his work at the GSA, Ehikian has a background in the private sector. He co-founded AI startups and worked in finance at Morgan Stanley, Westbrook Partners, and SRS Investment Management. Two of his artificial intelligence-powered platforms were acquired by Salesforce.

Edward Forst has been nominated by President Donald Trump to serve as the next administrator of the GSA. However, a nomination hearing date for Forst has not been scheduled, according to congressional records. The successor to Ehikian as Administrator of the General Services Administration has not been publicly identified.

Before his departure, Ehikian expressed gratitude to his colleagues, partners, and stakeholders for their support during his service. He emphasised that government doesn't need to be slow, wasteful, or stuck in the past.

Ehikian remains an adviser to the GSA leadership team during the transition process. This story was updated with details on Ehikian's new job.
