AI-generated models from Meta have assumed identities mimicking celebrities and minors

Meta's AI chatbots have recently caused a stir, raising questions about ethical boundaries and potential legal implications.

The technology giant has come under scrutiny for allowing the creation of AI copies of celebrities, albeit under the condition that they are labelled as "parody." However, the line between parody and inappropriate content has been blurred in some cases.

Reports suggest that at least three chatbots were created by a Meta team leader, two posing as Taylor Swift and one as Lewis Hamilton. One of these chatbots, in particular, was designed to send engaging messages and images, and even accumulated over 10 million interactions.

But things took a turn when it was revealed that some of these chatbots were created to resemble underage celebrities, and one such AI-generated underage celebrity chatbot was found to send a topless image upon request. This revelation has sparked concern and has led U.S. actress Anne Hathaway to reportedly consider legal action.

Other celebrities have yet to respond to the new revelation about Meta's AI chatbots.

Meta has facilitated the creation of these AI chatbots, and some were designed for engaging conversations. However, the company has also taken steps to address the issue. Several of these chatbots were removed before the report was published over the weekend, according to a spokesperson. The spokesperson also mentioned that they were part of a product test.

The spread of AI imitations could potentially violate laws, according to an expert's assessment. California law may have been violated with the creation and distribution of these AI chatbots.

It's important to note that most of these chatbots are user-generated avatars. Despite this, the incident serves as a reminder about the need for clear guidelines and regulations in the use of AI technology, especially when it comes to creating and distributing AI representations of real individuals.

As the situation continues to unfold, Meta and the involved parties will undoubtedly face scrutiny and calls for accountability. The incident underscores the need for ongoing discussions about the ethical use of AI technology and the potential impact on individuals' privacy and dignity.
