Air Force Successfully Breaches Kupa's Surrounding Barriers.
In the ongoing conflict in eastern Ukraine, the city of Kupiansk has witnessed a series of events that have demonstrated the resilience and strategic prowess of the Ukrainian Defense Forces.
Despite small groups of Russian units infiltrating the city, they were unable to establish a foothold in Kupiansk. This comes as military expert Jan Matveev predicts that Russian attacks in the area will continue, detailing this in his blog.
For a month, Russian forces held positions near Radikovka, attempting to advance in the area of the village of Mirne. However, Ukrainian forces demonstrated their ability to effectively and swiftly respond to critical threats. Mirne was liberated by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and the R-07 highway, which supplies Kupiansk from Kharkiv, is no longer threatened by the advance of Russian forces.
Reports of a catastrophic situation for the Ukrainian garrison and possible surrender of Kupiansk emerged amid these events. But the Ukrainian Defense Forces have reclaimed control over key positions near Kupiansk in just a few days. The city's defense has become more stable, but the threat persists.
On August 23-24, Russian infantry broke through to the south, reaching Sobolevka and advancing about three kilometers inland, threatening the R-07 highway. Panic was fueled by rumors of fighting in northern quarters. Yet, Ukrainian forces thwarted the plans of the Russian units in Kupiansk, and Kupiansk faced a threat of encirclement for a week, but managed to overcome it.
Ukrainian forces launched a counterattack and reclaimed control over the northern part of Kupiansk. Matveev stated that the Ukrainians have a clear and well-thought-out response to these attacks, and the Ukrainian forces conserve their strength to apply it at a critical moment and improve their position.
The situation in the area remains fluid, but the Russian army's attempt to encircle Kupiansk failed. The city's defense serves as a testament to the determination and strategic acumen of the Ukrainian Defense Forces in the face of adversity.
