Airbus expands helicopter production in India, grants Mahindra Group a contract for H125 fuselage manufacturing
The H125, the world's best-selling single-engine helicopter, is set to further strengthen its presence in India with the announcement of a significant contract. Airbus Helicopters has awarded Mahindra Aerostructures Pvt. Ltd. (MASPL) the responsibility to manufacture the main fuselage of the H125 helicopter.
This decision complements Airbus's wider strategy in India, which includes the establishment of two Final Assembly Lines (FALs) for the H125 helicopter and the C295 military aircraft. These initiatives aim to develop a comprehensive, end-to-end aerospace ecosystem in India that includes design, manufacturing, assembly, maintenance, and training.
The H125, known for its performance, versatility, and cost-efficiency, is poised to catalyse the growth of new civil market segments such as Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS), Disaster Management, Law Enforcement, and Aerial Work. The 'Made in India' H125 will also cater to the requirements of the Indian armed forces.
The wide, unobstructed cabin and cutting-edge avionics systems of the H125 make it highly adaptable and reliable for operations in demanding environments. It is widely used in a variety of roles, including passenger transport, aerial work, tourism, law enforcement, medical evacuation, and rescue missions.
Industrialisation of the H125 fuselage will begin immediately at the MASPL facility in Bengaluru. The first fuselage delivery is targeted for 2027. This contract is a testament to the strong capabilities of partners in India and their shared vision for the country's aerospace sector, according to Jürgen Westermeier, President and MD of Airbus in India and South Asia.
The production contracts for the H125 and H130 aerostructures to MASPL integrate India more deeply into Airbus Helicopters' global value chain. Mahindra Group, committed to supporting the Government's 'Make in India' initiative, is further demonstrating its commitment with this contract.
Airbus currently procures components and services worth $1.4 billion annually from India, a figure that highlights the increasing value and complexity of the work being performed. The contract was announced on August 28, 2025, in Bengaluru, India, in the presence of Wouter van Wersch, Jürgen Westermeier, and Arvind Mehra.
Dr. Anish Shah, Group CEO and MD of Mahindra Group, stated that the contract strengthens their long-term partnership and reflects Mahindra Group and Airbus' role in building India's aerospace ecosystem. The H125 Final Assembly Line aims to build a comprehensive, end-to-end aerospace ecosystem that includes local design, manufacturing, assembly, maintenance, and training. The contract also demonstrates Airbus' confidence in India as a critical hub for global aerospace manufacturing.
