flyadeal Announces Daily Flights to Syria

Saudi Arabia-based low-cost carrier, flyadeal, has announced plans to launch daily non-stop scheduled flights to Syria, marking a significant move in the normalization of relations between the two countries. The new flights are expected to start operating in October 2025.

The expansion of flyadeal, a subsidiary of Saudia Group, includes an order for Airbus A330-900 aircraft. This order, shared with Cathay Group, will enable flyadeal to explore long-haul, low-cost routes across Asia and contribute to the airline's fleet expansion.

Currently, flyadeal operates from its bases in Riyadh, Jeddah, and Dammam, serving over 30 year-round and seasonal destinations in the Middle East, North Africa, Europe, and South Asia. The new flights will operate between Saudi Arabia's two biggest cities, Jeddah and Riyadh, and Damascus, Syria. Four services a week will be introduced from Riyadh, also starting 1 October 2025, and three services a week from Jeddah to Damascus.

flyadeal's CEO, Steven Greenway, has announced that the airline will commence daily flights to Syria on October 1, 2025. The new flights aim to contribute to the long-term recovery of Syria and the need for family reunions, following the recent lifting of western sanctions on the country.

Syria, which has been impacted by years of civil war, is the destination for flyadeal's expansion. The new flights are a positive step towards rebuilding connections and fostering economic growth in the region.

flyadeal's current fleet consists of 40 Airbus A320 aircraft, each with 186 all-Economy Class seats. With the addition of the A330-900 aircraft, the airline will be well-equipped to cater to the growing demand for travel between Saudi Arabia and Syria.

The Cathay Group, too, has announced an order for 30 Airbus A330-900 aircraft as part of their fleet expansion, with deliveries starting in 2028 to replace the existing A330-300 models. This move will further bolster the airline industry's capacity to serve passengers efficiently and affordably.

The expansion of flyadeal and the Cathay Group's fleet is a testament to the growing demand for travel and the commitment of these airlines to provide affordable and convenient options for passengers. As international travel resumes and restrictions ease, it is expected that the demand for flights to Syria will increase, making these new services a timely and much-needed addition to the region's travel offerings.
