In a shocking turn of events, a 37-year-old man from Calgary has been arrested in connection with an alleged child abduction in Airdrie. The incident, which occurred just before 8 p.m. on Monday, has sent ripples of concern through the community.

According to the Airdrie RCMP, the victim in this case was a 12-year-old boy. The suspect reportedly drove away with the boy in his vehicle. The accused now faces charges of abduction, sexual interference, invitation to sexual touching, and flight from a police officer, among others.

The investigation into the matter revealed that at least seven youth attempted an undercover operation, reminiscent of the To Catch a Predator series, with the suspect. The scheme involved arranging a meeting with the suspect through the social media platform, Snapchat.

A dramatic turn of events unfolded when the 12-year-old boy managed to escape from the vehicle at a red light and called 911. The boy's quick thinking led to the suspect's eventual apprehension.

RCMP, with assistance from Calgary police and the HAWCS helicopter, located the vehicle in northeast Calgary. The accused was taken into custody as a result of the operation.
