Georgian MP Threatens Legal Action Over 'Second Marriage' Rumours

In a recent development, Tea Tsulukiani, a prominent MP from the Georgian Dream party, has threatened legal action against anyone spreading rumours about her 'second marriage'. The threat comes in response to posts about Tsulukiani's marital status that have been circulating on social media.

Tsulukiani's current husband, as declared in her latest financial declaration filed in February, is Nugzar Kakulia, whom she married in 2016. However, there is no public evidence suggesting Tsulukiani has divorced Kakulia or remarried.

This is not the first time Tsulukiani has threatened legal action against her critics. She has a history of filing complaints and issuing legal threats, a fact that has been well-documented over the years.

In July 2025, Tsulukiani filed a defamation complaint against TV host and opposition figure Nanuka Zhorzholiani over a Facebook post Zhorzholiani made on 12 April. The post listed 20 people whom she claimed were executed under the responsibility of Tsulukiani's father, Avtandil Tsulukiani.

Following the initial complaint, Tsulukiani later confirmed that she had filed a second complaint against Zhorzholiani. This second complaint was filed with the Personal Data Protection Service. The court hearing for the initial defamation complaint has not yet taken place.

In July 2025, Ketevan Tsikhelashvili also filed a lawsuit against Nanuka Zhorzholiani after she made an accusation against Tsulukiani on Facebook.

Tsulukiani served as Justice Minister from 2012 to 2020 and Culture Minister from 2021 to 2024. During her tenure as Culture Minister, she threatened those who claimed the ministry was mishandling the historic Gelati Monastery in western Georgia.

In February 2024, while serving as Culture Minister, Tsulukiani posted a warning about legal action on her Facebook account. She stated that Zhorzholiani had filed a second complaint against her over the same post. Tsulukiani threatened to meet anyone spreading the rumours in court.

This latest threat of legal action comes as a surprise to many, given the ongoing court proceedings regarding the initial defamation complaint. It remains to be seen how this situation will unfold in the coming weeks.
