The former rampager of an Ansbach school, who was sentenced to nine years in juvenile detention for attempted murder in 47 cases back in 2009, has been arrested in Colombia following an approximately ten to twelve-hour outing that was meticulously planned.

The 34-year-old, who was undergoing therapy in Erlangen before his escape, was assessed as posing no danger prior to his disappearance from the forensic psychiatry clinic in Erlangen on August 16. However, the route of his escape was well thought out, and the time window of the outing was deliberately exploited, according to chief public prosecutor Friedrich Weitner.

Investigators are pursuing leads on specific individuals in relation to the escape, with suspicions that the man received support during his flight. It is believed that he received financial help during his escape, and the escape would not have been possible with the money available during his detention. Offenses such as aiding an escape and obstruction of justice are being considered.

The man went on a rampage in an Ansbach school in 2009, injuring nine students and one teacher. He was initially sentenced to nine years in juvenile detention, and the court also ordered his indefinite commitment to a psychiatric hospital.

Investigations into the escape are being carried out by the public prosecutor's office in Ansbach, with the office also looking into potential helpers. Weitner declined to provide further details for tactical reasons.

There are no indications that the arrested individual committed any criminal offenses during his flight, according to Weitner. The man was returned to the psychiatry clinic in Erlangen on Sunday after being arrested in Colombia.

Investigators are continuing their inquiries, with reports suggesting that the convicted criminal may have been helped by a woman and another person during his escape, with assistance reportedly given before and after the attack in 2016. The man had a valid passport and luggage with him and traveled from an airport outside the European Union towards Colombia.

The escape itself is not punishable for the 34-year-old, but any potential aiders and abettors may face legal consequences. The public prosecutor's office in Ansbach is urging anyone with information regarding the case to come forward.
