Alleged Assault Accusations at a Verdi Performance in Munich Lead to Criminal Charges

On February 13, 2025, Farhad N., an Afghan national, was accused of deliberately driving his car into a Ver.di event in Munich's city centre. The incident resulted in two fatalities and the injury of 44 others, some severely or critically.

The Federal Prosecutor's Office took over the case from the General Prosecutor's Office of Munich on February 14, 2025. Farhad N. was arrested on the same day and remains in custody.

The charges were filed by the Federal Prosecutor's Office on August 19, 2025, before the State Protection Senate of the Higher Regional Court of Munich. He is suspected of murder in two cases (§ 211 Abs. 2 Var. 4, 5 and 7 StGB) and is also suspected of attempted murder in 44 cases.

Farhad N.'s actions were motivated by an exaggerated religious belief, and he believed it his duty to attack and kill randomly selected people in Germany in response to the suffering of Muslims in Islamic countries. The charges also include bodily harm (§ 223 Abs. 1 StGB) and dangerous bodily harm (§ 224 Abs. 1 Nr. 2 and 5 StGB).
