Alleged bribe-taking by ex-Russian prosecutor costing a million dollars

In a recent development, a former prosecutor from the Lodeynoye Pole district, Leningrad Oblast, has been charged with accepting a bribe of $26,500. This announcement was made by the Investigative Committee of Russia, but no details about the businessman involved in the case have been released.

The accused is identified as Alexander Smirnov, although the name of the former prosecutor involved in the Lodeynoye Pole case has not been officially confirmed. The bribe was intended to help the businessman by terminating investigative actions against him.

The meeting between the former prosecutor and the intermediary took place on August 21 in a forest area in Lodeynoye Pole. During the meeting, the intermediary handed over the large sum of money to the former prosecutor. However, no further details about the recipient of the bribe have been released.

It is important to note that this case in Lodeynoye Pole is a separate incident from the one in Moscow. In a related update, a former prosecutor named Alexei Kulikov has been sentenced to 9.5 years in prison by the Zamoskvoretsky District Court of Moscow for accepting a $91,000 bribe.

Following the meeting, law enforcement officers immediately detained the former prosecutor. A criminal case has been opened for receiving a large bribe and mediation. The former prosecutor has since been remanded in custody.

Currently, no further details about the Lodeynoye Pole case are available. The location of the Moscow case is not specified, but the Lodeynoye Pole case took place in Lodeynoye Pole, Leningrad Oblast.

This news comes as a reminder of the ongoing fight against corruption in Russia. The public is urged to report any suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.
