Alleged Counterfeit Money Exchange Happened in St. Lorenz, Lübeck
In Lübeck, Germany, on Wednesday afternoon (03.09.2025), a 79-year-old man from St. Lorenz received a suspicious phone call claiming to be from a bank employee. The caller informed the man that counterfeit money was in circulation and asked for the serial numbers of his banknotes.
The elderly man, who had cash at home, was instructed to hand over the money to the alleged bank employee. However, the man was met by an unknown male person instead. This individual was described as approximately 20 years old, about 180 cm tall, slim, with dark skin, wearing a white sweater and dark pants. He left the scene on foot in an unknown direction after receiving 2000 euros from the victim under the pretense of exchanging counterfeit money for real money.
The police are treating this incident as fraud and are seeking information regarding the incident. Witnesses who may have noticed suspicious persons or vehicles in the areas of Moristeig, Elsterweide, and Binnenland are asked to contact the police.
