Alleged Hostage, of Luso-Israeli lineage, shared an affinity for soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo and was believed by his family to still be alive
In tragic news, it has been confirmed that Portuguese-Israeli sustainability student Idan Shtivi was one of the hostages held in the Gaza Strip. The body of Idan Shtivi was recovered this week, bringing an end to a long and hopeful search for his safe return.
Idan Shtivi, who had a passion for nature, photography, and animals, was in Portugal to obtain a passport when he was taken hostage. His family had travelled to Portugal to fight for his return, but their efforts were ultimately in vain.
Israeli authorities believe that only 20 hostages in Gaza may still be alive. The nationality of the second hostage recovered this week is also Portuguese-Israeli. The Portuguese authorities interrogated Idan Shtivi, who was identified and declared dead by Israel.
The Israeli ambassador to Portugal, Oren Rozenblat, posted a message about Idan Shtivi on social media, expressing his condolences to the family. The family of Idan Shtivi had held onto hope that he was still alive, despite the difficult circumstances.
There are still 48 hostages in Gaza, according to Israeli authorities. The search continues for the remaining hostages and efforts to secure their safe return are ongoing.
Idan Shtivi's tragic death serves as a reminder of the dangers and uncertainties that can arise when one is caught up in conflict zones. Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time.
