Alpine F1 racing driver Pierre Gasly re-signs with his team for another season

In the world of Formula 1, changes are a constant. This weekend, the spotlight was on Alpine F1 as they navigated through a series of developments.

Pierre Gasly, a mainstay with the team since 2023, found himself 19th on the grid in Saturday's qualifying for the current race. This marked a challenging outing for the French driver, who has participated in 168 Grand Prix and secured a victory in Monza back in 2020.

Meanwhile, Franco Colapinto, appointed as a reserve driver in January, stepped into the limelight. He replaced Jack Doohan, who has been sidelined due to poor results, and took his place on the grid. However, Colapinto's performance has yet to yield any points, with eight Grand Prix under his belt.

The team's performance this season has been a cause for concern. Alpine, which finished the championship in fourth place in 2022, has been struggling to return to the front positions. As of the 15th race of the season, they currently occupy the 10th and last place in the Constructors' Championship.

In a bid to turn things around, Alpine announced an agreement today that reinforces their conviction that Gasly will lead the team into the new regulatory era starting in 2026. However, there is no mention of Colapinto's potential presence on the grid next year due to his lack of performance.

Steve Nielsen, the new CEO of Alpine F1, officially assumed his functions this weekend. He will report to Flavio Briatore, the brand's executive advisor, and will take on some of the responsibilities of the former team leader, Oliver Oakes, who left in May for "personal reasons". Nielsen will also oversee the open seat next to Gasly, with Mick Schumacher being a possible candidate, but no final decision has been made yet.

As for Jack Doohan, there is no update on his current status or participation in the races.

The past few weeks have been a whirlwind for Alpine F1, but they remain hopeful for the future. With Gasly's experience and Nielsen's leadership, they aim to regain their position at the front of the grid.
