In the heart of Las Casas, northwestern Quito, a shocking incident took place on the streets of Ruiz de Castilla and Aldana, in the La América and Las Casas sector, on 26 September 2024. The incident, which was later confirmed by local media, was captured on CCTV footage and shows a woman being kidnapped.

The video, now going viral on social media, depicts a man approaching a woman with flowers before forcing her into a black car without license plates. The incident occurred on the streets of Ruiz de Castilla and Aldana, a bustling area of the city.

However, misinformation has been circulating on social media, falsely claiming that the incident is from India. It is important to clarify that the video is from Ecuador, not India. The video was uploaded by Ecuadorian media outlet Radio Pichincha on their X handle on 27 September 2024.

After the kidnapping, the woman was chased by locals. Later, she was released in Chillogallo, south of the capital. Contrary to some rumours, the woman was not released in India. The location of the release is Chillogallo, Ecuador.

Despite extensive searches, no specific information has been found about who initially uploaded the video of the woman kidnapped in Ecuador before it went viral on social media. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of verifying information before sharing it online.

This unfortunate incident highlights the need for increased safety measures in public areas, especially in cities like Quito. The authorities are urged to take necessary steps to ensure the safety and security of its citizens. The public is also encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the relevant authorities.
