Alternative approach for portable classrooms discovered
The Reuterstraße School in Wolfsburg has found itself in an unusual situation, as mold was discovered within three containers during summer exams. Despite this setback, classes at the school have continued almost as usual, with no direct contact with the mold reported.
In an effort to address the issue, the school administration and municipal administration have collaborated to find a solution for the twelve temporarily unavailable classrooms. The priority has been the installation of two new containers to replace the ones affected by mold.
The consolidation phase, which involves the installation of these new containers, is expected to be over by mid to late November. Interestingly, only one room fewer than before will be available for the interim period. This is due to the utilization of two additional rooms from the neighboring music school.
The new containers boast modern technical equipment and sufficient space, providing a temporary solution until the renovation of the affected area can take place. It's worth noting that the mold was found within the closed ceiling structure, not in the rooms, further minimizing disruption to the school's daily operations.
The renovation of the middle section, originally planned after the holidays, has been postponed until late November. Once the consolidation is complete, the renovation of the middle section will take place. Currently, five rooms in the middle section of the school are usable.
One notable development is the conversion of the former room of the school's social pedagogue into a classroom. Additionally, three classrooms became available during the holidays due to the installation of a third new container, the C-container.
The parties coordinating and supporting the construction of the containers have not been explicitly named in the available information. However, local political actors mentioned in the context include IG Metall Wolfsburg, the AfD (Alternative for Germany), CDU, and the Green party, but no direct connection to the container project was found.
Despite the mold issue, the school's management has prioritized ensuring that every lesson can take place, even if not in specialized rooms, due to almost 100% room utilization. This proactive approach ensures that the education of the students at the Reuterstraße School remains unaffected by the temporary challenges they are facing.
