Amateur Poker Champion Peter McCusker Victories at the 2025 World Championship Tournament
The 2025 World Championship of Amateur Poker (WCOAP) has come to a thrilling conclusion, with Peter McCusker emerging as the new World Champion of Amateur Poker. The tournament, held at Nottingham's Dusk Till Dawn, featured 22 events in total, including Pot Limit Omaha, Stud games, Mixed games, and an international team event.
McCusker topped a field of 475 entrants to win the WCOAP Main Event and claim the Amateur Poker Association & Tour (APAT) World Championship bracelet, along with a gold medal, winners' bracelet, and £13,000 in prize money. He beat Jonathan Rees, who finished as the runner-up and won £8,500, in a nail-biting final.
Rees was also successful earlier in the festival, winning the PLO Championship and £3,900. Other notable winners include Matthew Parker, who clinched the 8-Game Championship, and James Buck, who took home the TORSE Championship and £2,915.
The Team Event was won by England, with all four members receiving gold medals and winners' bracelets. Ky Hutchinson won the PLO8 Championship for £3,745, while Mohammed Fatemi triumphed in the PLO 4/5/6 Card Championship. Matthew Leather won the ROE Omaha8/Stud8 Championship, and Jonathan Douglas-Davies took home the 2-7 Triple Draw Championship.
The festival also featured a Mystery Bounty Shootout Championship, which was won by Jonathan Raab for £2,250. In addition to the individual events, the tournament offered a £115+£25 APAT Championship, with the next event scheduled to take place at Grosvenor Portsmouth from 5-7 September.
As APAT approaches its 20th year in existence, having started in 2006, there are several further events still to come in 2025, including events in Czechia, Leeds, Malta, and London before the tour returns to Nottingham.
Mark Langdale finished in 4th place, Kevin Smith came in 3rd, and Gary Colclough ended up in 7th place in the Main Event. Melanie Parkar won the Bounty Championship, and Charles Mason won the Mixed Limit Championship.
The WCOAP Main Event was a highly anticipated event, with the identity of the World Champion of Amateur Poker in Stud games in 2025 remaining a secret. Regardless, the 2025 WCOAP festival was a resounding success, showcasing the best of amateur poker talent from around the world.
