Great Tangley Manor, a historic masterpiece in Wonersh, Surrey, is now known as Upper Tangley Manor and serves as an impressive holiday letting venue. This Grade I-listed building, first mentioned in the Domesday Book as a royal hunting lodge, has a rich history that spans centuries.

The manor, which is thought to be Britain's oldest continuously inhabited house, was acquired by Wickham Flower in 1884. Flower, a founder member of the Society for the Preservation of Ancient Buildings (SPAB) and an enthusiastic supporter of the Arts-and-Crafts Movement, ensured that the manor was well-maintained during his ownership.

John Caryl added the half-timbered front to Great Tangley Manor in 1582, giving it the distinctive appearance it retains today. In 1998, Anne and Glyn Powell-Evans bought Great Tangley Manor and, in 2007, acquired Great Tangley Manor West, restoring the property's historic manor-house status. The Powell-Evans have sympathetically renovated and upgraded the manor, offering 11,255sq ft of accommodation.

Upper Tangley Manor boasts a moat, three splendid reception spaces, a kitchen, study, five bedrooms, and three bathrooms. It also has its own independent entrance and ancillary buildings such as a greenhouse, stables, a helicopter hangar, and a Second World War air-raid shelter.

In 2007, the addition of a 'glass-box' extension won the New Buildings category of the Waverley Design Awards. Works executed throughout the manor include exterior decoration, electrical upgrades, installation of a wood-pellet heating system, and electrical car-charging points.

In May 1958, Great Tangley Manor was advertised for sale with five cottages, farm buildings, 120 acres of land, and a prime dairy herd. The farm was sold off, and in 1959, the manor house was divided into two separate entities: Great Tangley Manor and Great Tangley Manor West.

Today, the current owner of Upper Tangley Manor is a private individual or family, as it is a privately owned historic manor house. The manor is for sale via Strutt & Parker at £5.95m. If the second lot, including the stable yard and a substantial meadow with a few acres, is not desired, a £5 million discount leaves enough money to buy a private jet or a villa in St Barths.
