In the heart of Denizli, Turkey, the ancient city of Hierapolis played host to a captivating performance of Carl Orff's "Carmina Burana". The Hierapolis Ancient Theater, with its 1,800-year history and architectural grandeur, served as an almost open-air museum for this spectacular event.

The 75-minute, single-act stage cantata brought together 212 performers, including an orchestra, choir, and a children's choir, under the direction of Vladimir Lungu, Orhan Öner Özcan, and Bashar Unal respectively. The performance was presented by artists of the state opera and ballet from the neighboring city of Izmir.

Denizli Mayor Bülent Nuri Çavuşoğlu expressed his delight, stating that the city is moving towards its vision of becoming a "city of art". Tan Sagtürk, State Opera and Ballet General Director and Artistic Director, echoed this sentiment, expressing pride in the strong turnout and aiming to reach more towns and cities in Anatolia.

The Hierapolis Ancient Theater, known for its baroque-style features from the Roman era, boasts many important works, such as the reliefs of Roman Emperor Septimius Severus and his wife Julia. The performance attracted over 10,000 people, filling the theater to capacity.

The event was organized by the State Opera and Ballet Directorate and local authorities, in collaboration with the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism. The performance marked the inaugural opera and ballet days in Denizli, with Swan Lake by the Ankara State Opera and Ballet scheduled for Nov. 29.

As Denizli continues to establish itself as a city with a strong focus on art and culture, the Hierapolis Ancient Theater stands as a testament to its rich history and potential for future cultural events.
