Announcing the Color of the Year for 2025 - Introducing 'Mocha Mousse', the Hue to Watch
In a bold move, the Pantone Color Institute has declared that the colour of the year for 2025 will be Mocha Mousse. This chic, chocolatey hue is set to make a significant impact on various industries, including interiors, beauty, fashion, industrial, and architectural design.
Leatrice Eiseman, the Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute, explains that Mocha Mousse expresses a level of thoughtful indulgence and is underpinned by our desire for everyday pleasures. The color is described as a comforting brown that brings us into harmony with an ever-changing world.
Mocha Mousse is considered a richer and more luxurious brown compared to previous neutrals. It is a versatile color that can be used in minimalist and richly decorated applications. For instance, Arvin Olano's collection with Rugs USA features an earthy, Mocha Mousse-inspired checked wool area rug.
The color's popularity is not surprising, as it taps into the tortoiseshell decor trend that has been popular in homewares this year. H&M Home sells affordable striped bath towels and hand towels in the shade of Mocha Mousse, making it accessible for everyone. A light creamy chocolate glass lamp also fits with the tortoiseshell decor trend and is in the shade of Mocha Mousse.
To complement Mocha Mousse, Pantone recommends two layered color palettes: Relaxed Elegance and Floral Pathways. The Relaxed Elegance palette includes off-white Cannoli Cream, soft pink Cream Tan, warm beige Safari, rich Chocolate Martini, and others. The Floral Pathways palette includes Cornflower Blue, fresh green Tendril, sun-kissed Rose Tan, khaki Willow, and others.
For 2025, it appears that brown is being embraced as a popular color choice, with Mocha Mousse being a key example. The color is seen as a natural next step for 2025, reflecting the interior design world's embrace of vintage aesthetics and nostalgic moments. A luxury bathroom suite in the shade of Mocha Mousse was seen in a showroom, showcasing its potential in high-end design.
Pantone's goal with Mocha Mousse is to change the narrative to something more aspirational and luxe. The color is expected to influence various industries, offering a new palette for designers and consumers alike. As we move into 2025, it's clear that Mocha Mousse is set to become a staple in our homes, wardrobes, and beyond.
