In the summer of 2014, James DeMonaco, known for his work in creating suspenseful and sociological horror, released "The Purge: Anarchy". The film, distributed by Universal Pictures, had a budget of $9 million and a runtime of 103 minutes.

The film is set in a world where all crime, including murder, is legal during an annual event known as "The Purge". The story follows a couple, Frank Grillo and Carmen Ejogo, a helpless woman with her daughter, Kiele Sanchez and Michael K. Williams, as they navigate the dangerous night defenseless against the murderous participants.
The film was reviewed by both EMP and Kommsie, with the latter finding it watchable and entertaining for a short while. Sebastian Fiebiger, an editor, found the scenario of the first part intriguing and plans to watch the film as a Blu-ray.
"The Purge: Anarchy" was produced by Jason Blum, Andrew Form, Bradley Fuller, Sebastien Lemercier, Michael Bay, and an unnamed individual. The soundtrack for the film was composed by Nathan Whitehead.
James DeMonaco, in addition to directing the film, was also the screenwriter for "The Purge: Anarchy". The film was released on July 31, 2014, and stars a talented cast including Frank Grillo, Carmen Ejogo, Zach Gilford, Kiele Sanchez, and Michael K. Williams.
