Anti-nuclear proponents, represented by Forum Sustainable Investments, advocate for a worldwide prohibition of nuclear energy.

The Forum for Sustainable Investments (FNG) has expressed its opposition to the inclusion of nuclear power in the catalog of sustainable energy forms. According to the FNG, the unresolved question of how to safely store nuclear waste hinders the sustainable character of nuclear power.

The FNG's stance on nuclear power is not a new development. The organisation has previously cited the nuclear disaster in Fukushima in 2011 as a reason for its belief that nuclear power contradicts sustainability. The FNG also notes that established sustainability labels, such as its own label, the Austrian Ecolabel, the Nordic Swan label, and the French Greenfin Label, all exclude nuclear power.

The European Commission, however, classifies nuclear energy as a sustainable economic activity under the EU Taxonomy Regulation. The Commission considers nuclear energy a transitional activity that significantly contributes to climate protection because no technically and economically feasible low-carbon alternatives currently exist. This classification was upheld by the EU Court.

Despite this, the FNG recommends that the European Commission not classify nuclear power as a sustainable economic activity. The organisation believes that including nuclear power in the catalog would hinder financial flows to sustainable economic activities.
