Anticipated Clash between Schalke and Bochum: Plans by Bogestra and Police for the Derby Encounter

The long-awaited Revier-Derby is set to take place this Saturday evening, as FC Schalke 04 and VfL Bochum go head-to-head in the 2nd Bundesliga. After two seasons without a direct encounter, the top clubs of the neighboring cities are meeting again in league games.

The match will take place at the Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen, and both Bogestra and the police are hopeful that it will remain a peaceful contest where sport is the only focus. The Revier-Derby is unofficially known as the "Tram Derby" due to the direct tram line (302) connecting Bochum and Gelsenkirchen.

For Schalke fans, the majority will board the tram at the main station and travel to the "Veltins Arena" stop. Up to 25 shuttle buses will be provided for VfL fans, departing from the Ruhrstadion on Castroper Street in Bochum. These shuttle buses will take VfL fans directly to the guest area at the Schalker Arena.

Bogestra, a transport company, expects a busy day due to the match, with up to 30 trams in operation at peak times. The demand for trams is expected to be greater on the return journey after the game. The police will escort the shuttle buses to ensure a smooth journey for fans.

However, the police do not expect to use water cannons or patrol with mounted units in the stadium area on Saturday evening. Stephan Knipp, spokesperson for the Gelsenkirchen police, stated that this is not a high-risk game, and for the police, it is "a normal football game." The police deployment for this match is not comparable to the effort usually required for games against Dortmund.

Despite the anticipation, a certain number of Bochum fans are expected to arrive by private car rather than public transport. A total of 50 employees of Bogestra will be on duty to manage the increased demand for transport.

The last encounter between the two teams in the 2022/23 first division season took place. The Revier-Derby in the 2nd Bundesliga is a significant event, and fans are eagerly awaiting this Saturday's clash. The exact number of police officers assigned for security at this event is not provided in the search results.
