Anticipated Plea Agreement for Ex-FCC Employee in Connection to Alexandria's Sexual Assault Cases
In the city of Alexandria, a former Federal Communications Commission (FCC) employee, Jeffrey Gary, is set to enter a plea agreement for allegedly sexually assaulting and attempting to abduct two women near Metro stations in May.
Gary, who had worked as an assistant division chief for two years at the FCC, was arrested on June 1, following a joint investigation by Metro Transit Police and local authorities. The charges against him include assault and battery, sexual battery, and two counts of abduction with force, which are all felony charges.
The incidents in question took place on May 30, within an hour of each other, at the Potomac Yard Metro station and near the Braddock Road Metro station. One of the victims described Gary approaching her from behind, putting one hand over her mouth and another around her waist, before she managed to fight back and escape.
The case has highlighted the effectiveness of regional law enforcement cooperation and advanced surveillance technology in identifying suspects. Metro Transit Police played a crucial role in identifying Gary through surveillance technology and used Metro card data to track his movements through the system.
Gary waived his right to a preliminary hearing on Monday in Alexandria court, moving three of the four charges against him to a grand jury. The legal proceedings for these charges will go before a grand jury on Sept. 8. If the grand jury finds probable cause, the case will proceed.
Gary secured a $14,000 bond on June 13 and remains under house arrest. The Commonwealth's Attorney's Office has declined to disclose details of the proposed plea agreement.
The city of Alexandria has provided support services to the victim, who has expressed that the past few months have been challenging emotionally and mentally. She has shared her fear while walking outside alone and worry when someone walks behind her.
Anyone who believes they may have encountered Gary or experienced a similar incident is encouraged to contact local police or call the Alexandria Sexual Assault Center's 24-hour hotline at 703-683-7273.
Previous ALXnow coverage includes articles on the arrest of the suspect (June 2, 2025) and the use of Metro card data in the investigation (July 7, 2025). However, there is no information available about the agency Jeffrey Gary was unemployed from before his arrest or where he last worked.
