Anticipated Renewed Excitement for Pop Mart
Pop Mart, a Beijing-based toy maker known for its Labubu collectible plush toys, has experienced a surge in popularity with the release of its latest product - the Mini-Labubus. The dolls, which are approximately ten centimeters tall and priced at 18.90 Singapore dollars (about 13 euros), have generated significant revenue for the company.
In the first half of this year, Pop Mart reported a 204% increase in revenue compared to the previous year, with a global revenue of 13.87 billion Chinese yuan (464 million euros). The "Pin For Love" drop, specifically the "The Monsters" brand, contributed significantly to this figure, generating 4.81 billion Chinese yuan (about 577 million euros). This represents a 401% increase in profit compared to the previous year.
The new Mini-Labubus dolls, released in the "The Monsters Pin For Love Series" and coming in 30 different colours, created a demand similar to getting a ticket to a Taylor Swift concert. The chaos unfolded in Singapore and China, with the dolls being sold out almost instantly. Despite the online-only release, customers still crowded stores in Singapore, particularly in the Orchard shopping district.
Sarah, a marketing employee in Singapore and a passionate Labubu collector with 12 dolls in her collection over two years, was one of those who missed out on the online release due to its competitive nature. However, she visited the Pop Mart store to see the Mini-Labubus, specifically the beige one that corresponds to the letter "S" - her initial.
Justus Ong, an employee at the Pop Mart store in the Plaza Singapura shopping center, reported about 50 people in line before the store opened on Friday. The Pop Mart store in Orchard was filled with customers crowding around the "The Monsters" section.
Despite the initial disappointment, Sarah plans to wait until the dolls are available in resale shops. The frenzy over the Mini-Labubus demonstrates the immense appeal and popularity of the Labubu brand, with the company's stock rising by more than 600% last year. The chaos surrounding the release of the Mini-Labubus dolls was reported by Bloomberg.
Pop Mart made the dolls available only online to avoid long lines. Lucky customers who bought the dolls online could pick them up at Pop Mart stores in Singapore. The release of the Mini-Labubus dolls marks a new milestone for Pop Mart and further cements its position as a leader in the collectible toy market.
