Anticipated resurrection of travel suggested through vaccine implementation

In a welcome development for the tourism sector, the United States has announced that vaccinated individuals will once again be allowed to enter the country. This decision has been warmly welcomed by Thomas Bareiß, the federal government's Commissioner for Tourism, who views it as an opportunity for a post-corona tourism restart.

Bareiß, who serves as the Federal Government Coordinator for Tourism and Maritime Economy, has been a strong advocate for the industry throughout the pandemic. He is a member of the CDU party and holds a coordinating role for tourism within the German government, despite the formal location of tourism policy being within the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action.

The positive trend in the tourism industry is evident in the numbers. In July 2021, accommodation providers in Germany recorded 48.2 million overnight stays by domestic and foreign guests, marking a 6 percent increase compared to July 2020. This improvement is also reflected in the overall performance of the hospitality industry, which in August 2021 reached its best turnover since the beginning of the pandemic, with a turnover decrease of 5.7 percent compared to the August value of the pre-crisis year 2019.

Domestic tourism and the hospitality industry have gradually regained momentum, with Bareiß emphasizing the importance of considering the economic, social, cultural, and ecological aspects of travel in the recovery from the crisis. He has been a vocal supporter of the federal government's efforts to maintain a strong tourism industry during the corona crisis.

Bareiß has also highlighted the significance of vaccinations in the restart of tourism. He believes that vaccinations make a substantial difference in this regard.
