Anticipated scorching temperatures to strike Latvia towards the middle of the coming week.

Saturday will see a sunny and dry day in many parts of Latvia, with temperatures reaching between +19 C and 24 C. However, the heatwave is expected to continue, with the maximum temperature anticipated to be around 30 degrees at least from Thursday to Saturday.

The weather on Sunday will remain changeable, with brief showers expected in the first half of the day in some areas. In Kurzeme, it will start with a drizzle, and the temperature will not get much warmer, staying around +18 C to +20 C. In other parts of Latvia, the air will warm up to +25 C to +30 C.

A warmer air mass will move into Latvia during the night, but a cold front will begin to cross Latvia from the west during the day on Sunday. This front could bring rain and thunderstorms to the central part of Latvia in the middle of the day, with localized thunderstorms also possible during this period.

In the extreme east of Latvia, thunderstorm clouds will arrive only in the late afternoon and evening. There is a risk of severe thunderstorms bringing hail and storms locally in eastern Vidzeme and Latgale. Overnight temperatures on Saturday will be warm, with a minimum of +14 to +19 C.

Current forecasts indicate that the heat will last at least from Thursday to Saturday. After the heatwave, the weather will be moderately warm at the start of the new week, with temperatures reaching +18 C to +23 C on Monday.

It is important to note that the responsibility for the weather forecast in Latvia, including predictions of temperatures potentially exceeding 30 degrees in the second half of the year, lies with EUMETSAT (European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites), an intergovernmental organization operating meteorological satellites and providing data used for weather observation and forecasting in Latvia and other European member states.

Precipitation during this period will be scarce, but localized thunderstorms cannot be ruled out. No specific information about the weather in Vidzeme on Sunday was provided. On Saturday night, it will rain in many parts of Kurzeme and north-western Vidzeme.

Stay tuned for further updates on the weather in Latvia.
