Mexico is gearing up for its cold front season, which officially runs from September 15, 2025, to May 15, 2026. During this period, the country is expected to experience between 51 and 56 cold front systems.

The cold front will primarily affect the northeastern states, with temperatures in the northeast dropping to between 0 and 5 degrees Celsius during the early morning hours. Other states such as Puebla, Durango, and Mexico state could also see low temperatures and rain.

A low-pressure zone with the potential for cyclonic development is expected to form south of the Guerrero coast. This could lead to occasional heavy rains in Veracruz, Guerrero, Oaxaca, Chiapas, and Tabasco.

Whirlwinds or tornadoes are expected in the state of Coahuila on Sunday, spreading to areas of Nuevo León and Tamaulipas on Monday. Residents in these regions have been advised to exercise caution due to the potential for lightning and hail.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall (50 to 75 millimeters) is predicted for Baja California Sur, Sonora, Chihuahua, Sinaloa, Durango, Nayarit, Jalisco, Michoacán, Guerrero, Veracruz, Campeche, and Yucatán. The predicted rainfall may cause rising river and stream levels, landslides, and flooding in low-lying areas.

The state of Oaxaca, Chiapas (east and south), and Tabasco (east and south) are forecasted to experience very heavy to intense rainfall (75 to 150 millimeters).

The National Meteorological Service (SMN) predicts Mexico's first cold front of the season to arrive this weekend. The rainy season will continue until September 30. Baja California, Zacatecas, Colima, Guanajuato, Querétaro, Mexico state, Mexico City, Morelos, Puebla, and Quintana Roo are expected to have showers with heavy rainfall (25 to 50 millimeters).

Hot to very hot weather (35 to 40 degrees Celsius or 95-104 degrees Fahrenheit) will persist over states along the Pacific and southern Gulf of Mexico coasts, the Yucatán Peninsula, and further south in parts of Jalisco, Colima, Michoacán, Guerrero, and Oaxaca.

Weather authorities have urged residents to stay vigilant and follow safety guidelines during this weather season.
