Approval secured for Barking Community Hospital construction project
New Community Diagnostic Center to Boost Healthcare Services in Barking
Carter Jonas has secured planning consent from the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham to construct a new community diagnostic center on behalf of Barking, Havering, and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust. The new facility, set to be located on a site that has previously hosted Barking Community Hospital for over a century, will be one of the 40 centers announced by the government in October 2021.
The planning consent allows for the provision of clinical spaces for cardiology, respiratory, pathology, physiological measurement, MRU/CT control, and procedure rooms. This expansion is expected to address a real need efficiently and quickly, according to Charlotte Hutchison, associate partner at Carter Jonas.
Vikki Butler, director of clinical reconfiguration at Barking, Havering, and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust, expressed delight about the support for the development. She stated that the modern construction of the new diagnostic center will add to and enhance facilities on the Barking Community Hospital site. Moreover, the new center will enable residents of Barking to access locally based diagnostic services.
Charlotte Hutchison also noted that the scheme can be delivered to high sustainability standards despite the rapid timeframe. The new diagnostic center is expected to achieve a BREEAM 'excellent' accreditation due to its energy efficiency, PV panel installation, air source heat pumps, and use of Modern Methods of Construction. These features are expected to reduce carbon emissions during construction and enable the new hospital to be delivered exceptionally fast.
The anticipated completion date for the new diagnostic center is December, and it is expected to provide a significant boost to the outpatient capacity in the area. Vikki Butler expressed her satisfaction with the project, saying, "We are thrilled to move forward with this development, which will greatly benefit our community."
Despite the exciting progress, the search results do not provide information about the architect or construction company responsible for building the new community diagnostic centre at Barking Community Hospital. Regardless, the news of this new facility brings hope for improved healthcare services in the Barking area.
