Argentina shocks New Zealand with a groundbreaking 29-23 victory over the All Blacks

In a thrilling turn of events, Argentina secured a historic victory over New Zealand in the Rugby Championship, winning 22-25 in Buenos Aires. This marked the Pumas' first home victory over the All Blacks after 16 attempts.

The match began with Argentina taking the early lead through a penalty goal by Tomas Albornoz. However, New Zealand responded swiftly, scoring two tries midway through the first half, courtesy of Billy Proctor and Fletcher Newell.

The momentum shifted in Argentina's favour as they dominated the game's proceedings. Gonzalo Garcia scored a try for the Pumas, giving them a 13-point lead midway through the second stanza. Santiago Carreras added to Argentina's tally with three second-half penalties.

The All Blacks' comeback hopes were hindered when Sevu Reece was shown a yellow card for a deliberate foul, and Tupou Vaa'i was sent to the sin bin for a deliberate knockdown during the same passage of play. Argentina also had a two-man advantage for a period during the first half due to Will Jordan's yellow card for deliberate obstruction.

Despite being a man down, New Zealand showed resilience, with Samisoni Taukei'aho scoring a try for the All Blacks. Damian McKenzie landed a late penalty goal for New Zealand, earning them a bonus point.

Notably, the Pumas' victory was led by Michael Cheika, the Argentine coach who has now guided them to seven wins against the All Blacks. However, the match was marred by injuries, with Tomas Albornoz, an influential fly-half for Argentina, being forced out of the game.

This victory marks a significant milestone for Argentina in the Rugby Championship. Alongside this triumph, all four teams in the competition - Argentina, New Zealand, South Africa, and Australia - have now recorded a win and a loss after two rounds. The Springboks earlier beat the Wallabies 30-22 in Cape Town.

This exciting match serves as a testament to the competitive nature of the Rugby Championship, with each team showing great promise and potential. The stage is set for more thrilling encounters as the tournament progresses.
